Recently we heard about a hack at HBO. The intruders were said to have acquired episodes of the shows Ballers, Room 104, and possibly the script for Game of Thrones Season 7, Episode 4. According to Entertainment Weekly, the actual episode leaked online today. A source within HBO claims the hack and the leak of the episode are not related. The source of the leak comes from one of HBO’s international affiliates, Star India, who released this statement.
“This confirms the compromise of episode 4 of Game of Thrones Season 7, earlier this afternoon. We take this breach very seriously and have immediately initiated forensic investigations at our and the technology partner’s end to swiftly determine the cause. This is a grave issue and we are taking appropriate legal remedial action.”

This isn’t the first leak for Game of Thrones. back in 2015, four of the 10 episodes of Season 5 leaked online. That’s nearly half the season. Game of Thrones is the most pirated television show on the planet, and even with the rampant piracy and internal leaks, Game of Thrones‘ popularity isn’t going anywhere. The leak may also have unintended blessings as it is safe to assume many internet users will watch the episode before it officially airs Sunday night, and the hype for the episode may be heavily elevated. As a fellow LRM writer (Cam Clark) said recently, Game of Thrones is a show that should be binged; the wait between seasons would be a little longer, but it would severely cut down the chances of leaks.
