Game Of Thrones: Filmmaker Break Down The Battle Of Winterfell In 40-MINUTE Video!

If you’ve already consumed the thick, meaty episode of Game of Thrones that was “The Long Night,” which saw many heroes fighting for the future of humanity. The Battle of Winterfell was the big battle that’s been teased for months and months, and it consisted of a challenging three-month-long night shoots of pure action. Needless, to say, this was an amazing feat for all involved, and if you wanted to have an in-depth look at it…look no further.

HBO has you covered, and have put together a 40-minute long documentary chronicling the behind-the-scenes of the whole thing. In the video, they break down many different aspects of the scenes. Of course, one key component was the hiring of the cinematographer, who had a real logic behind the controversially-dark lighting of the battle. They don’t address the darkness itself, but the logic behind the lighting is pretty cool to see.

From there, they break down the story beats throughout the battle. They don’t want it to just be an all-out brawl with no sense of progression and instead sought to break it down into different genres and acts, which helps the story gain some momentum, even in the midst of action. Other key points covered are the death of Lyanna Mormont, as well as the importance of Arya’s role.
