Game Of Thrones Final Season To Bring ‘Longest Consecutive Battle Sequence’ Ever?

If you watch Game of Thrones, chances are you expect three things: sex, intrigue, and explosive set pieces. Given that it’s a high fantasy series, that latter point is pretty damn expected. Plus, with this being the conclusion of such a high stakes tale, the folks at HBO would probably be crucified if this conclusion pulled a Glass on us, opting for a more personal battle (though even that could be rewarding in and of itself).

And, based on what we’ve learned so far of the upcoming final season, the producers are looking to meet the demand for action. In an episode of the season, we will be seeing the Night King army facing off against the land of the living to decide the fate of all of Westeros. According to EW, this battle is expected to be the longest consecutive battle sequence to be committed to film. So yeah, it’s a big deal, as co-executive producer Bryan Cogman states.

“What we have asked the production team and crew to do this year truly has never been done in television or in a movie. This final face-off between the Army of the Dead and the army of the living is completely unprecedented and relentless and a mixture of genres even within the battle. There are sequences built within sequences built within sequences. David and Dan [wrote] an amazing puzzle and Miguel came in and took it apart and put it together again. It’s been exhausting but I think it will blow everybody away.”

As we reported months back, this battle scene requires 11 weeks of night shoots and 750 crew members, who endured freezing temperatures, cold winds, mud, and icy rain, among other feats of nature. Needless to say, my own expectations are being raised even as I type this.
