Game Of Thrones’ Final Season’s Opening Scenes To Call Back To Show’s First Season [SPOILERS]

Get ready to kiss Game of Thrones goodbye. Well, get ready to kiss the characters you’ve been following for the past eight or so years goodbye, at least. After several jaw-dropping season, the twisted, violent, and convoluted tale will be reaching its conclusion, bookending a story that began oh-so-innocently back in 2011. With its final season around the corner, what can we expect in terms of its content?

In an extensive profile on the show and its last run on HBO, its opening is discussed. That’s right, the outlet outright gives us a good idea of what we can expect in what is likely the opening 10 or 15 minutes. The reason? Well, with this being the last season, it seems fitting there’d be some real parallels to that first season. But if you don’t want to be spoiled, do NOT read head.

Here’s what EW said about its opening:

“Season 8 opens at Winterfell with an episode that contains plenty of callbacks to the show’s pilot. Instead of King Robert’s procession arriving, it’s Daenerys and her army. What follows is a thrilling and tense intermingling of characters — some of whom have never previously met, many who have messy histories — as they all prepare to face the inevitable invasion of the Army of the Dead.”

I really like the fact that they’ll be calling back. Hopefully, it isn’t too on-the-nose. I like callbacks, as there is a beautiful and poetic nature to it, but to rely too heavily on what’s come before, it comes across as too lazy. For an example of bad ways to do callbacks, I recommend checking out Kingsman: The Golden Circle.

But what do you think of the idea of utilizing callbacks? Let us know your thoughts down below!
