Game Of Thrones: George R.R. Martin Refused A Season 8 Cameo To Work On The Winds Of Winter

Game of Thrones is almost done. I’m sure many of you are both hyped for and dreading the coming conclusion of the vaunted series. By the end of it all, the bloody fight for the throne will come to an end, Winter will be camed, and humanity will either have united against the oncoming danger from the North or succumbed to its own greed.

But the season is also one last opportunity for the series author George R.R. Martin to get a cameo in. He famously filmed a cameo for the original pilot, but seeing as it was cut from that pilot, there would still be some place for him. However, if you were hoping to get your Martin fix in this last season, think again, as the man refused a cameo in order to focus on writing The Winds of Winter, the long-awaited sixth book in the Song of Ice and Fire series, as he revealed to EW.

“[Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss] invited me to a cameo in one of the final episodes, which I was tempted to do. But I didn’t think just for the sake of a cameo I could take the time to return to Belfast.”

Fans of the novels will definitely be happy to hear the man is buckling down on this book, especially since he more recently opted to focus on Fire & Blood, which focused on the history of the Targaryens. That’s all well and good for many fans, but they’ll definitely be happy once they have the book in hand — and that’s not even to mention all the years they’ll have to wait for the final volume, A Dream of Spring.
