Fans are still at least a year away from the final and hopefully epic season of Game of Thrones. The six-episode final season will conclude what is arguably the greatest television show ever.
As many of you already know, Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have already begun thinking about their next project, Confederate. Casey Bloys, president of HBO was very clear while speaking with Deadline that the final season of Game of Thrones will keep the show-runners full attention:
“Dave and David are in production on Game of Thrones, they are still talking (about Confederate) but it’s going to be a year year, year and a half before there is anything. They have to finish GOT.”
Absolutely, this is what Game of Thrones fans want to hear. While Confederate has an interesting premise, if not a heavily controversial one (more on that below), fans have invested years in Game of Thrones and want the show-runners focused on the show’s final season.
Confederate would be set in a world where the Civil War resulted in the South to seceding from the Union, meaning slavery is still practiced in their new nation. Considering today’s political climate, this is a bold choice by Benioff and Weiss. Having said that, I would be very interested in watching the show.
