Game of Thrones – Maisie Williams Was Told In Season 3 That Arya Would Kill The Night King

While there are many, many aspects of the eighth season of Game of Thrones that I take issue with, one that I am still very fond of, was the third episode of the season, ‘The Long Night.’ Sure, it wasn’t perfect but I was one who didn’t mind how dark the lighting of the episode was, and I thought it was awesome that Arya was the one to end the Night King.

Maisie Williams, who played Arya Stark for the run of the show says she was old way back in Season 3 that it would be her character that would save Westeros from the Army of the Dead. And that Kit Harrington thought it would be his character, Jon Snow, that would end the Night King’s reign. You can check out what Williams had to say

“[Kit Harington] expected it to go [Jon Snow’s] way, too, and he even said, ‘It was going to go that way. Someone told me in season three that I was going to kill The Night King. And then, he read the script, and it was Arya the whole time. (Laughs.) Yeah, I think it would’ve been too obvious. I’m glad that it was Arya, honestly. I think I had the best storyline of the final season.”

Having Jon Snow save the day would have followed along with an old fantasy trope. However, in this story the handsome prince with the magic sword doesn’t get to kill the monster. When you think about it, there really wasn’t anyone better for the job than Arya. Yeah, Jon Snow is a great warrior, but Arya is an assassin.

I remember watching the Night King hold Arya in the air by her neck, a few seconds felt more like minutes, and I thought, “He’s going to snap Aryas neck.” We all know that didn’t happen and for the most part, I am glad he didn’t. Though there is a part of me that wishes he would have done it, because I feel that in ‘old’ Game of Thrones, he would have snapped her neck right in front of us. As well as the episode killing off more beloved characters.

WHo do you thin should have been the one to kill the Night King? Let us know in the comments down below!
