In a recent interview filmmaker Gareth Edwards denies he’s in talks to direct Thor 5. Apparently though I didn’t see it, there was a rumor Edwards was in talks. I have no idea who the original source that claimed this is, so can’t make any comment on that. It wasn’t from anyone I tend to follow closely though.
Edwards was asked about the rumor during an interview with Post Cred Pod. It sounds like the filmmaker was surprised to see his name mentioned in connection with the film. However, he admits that he might be interested in making a Marvel movie under the right circumstances.

“Saw those rumors, too, I saw it and I jokingly sent it to my girlfriend. Just texted her the link and said, ‘I didn’t want you to find out this way.’ I’ve never heard anything about it. It’s totally… The internet is an incredible place, I love those movies, I love Marvel. A lot of my friends work on Marvel films. I love all the other movies and franchises, I go to see them. I have most of them on my DVD/Blu-ray shelf. But I really want to keep pursuing original sci-fi. Was that a very politically correct answer? I never say never. In the right circumstances, absolutely.”

Though never announced it has been rumored that Thor 5 is in development. Director of the last two Thor films Taika Waititi essentially ruled himself out. Waititi heard it was happening soon and with his calendar as full as it is, he knows it will not be him this time.
That means Marvel is currently looking for a director, maybe even a writer//director for Thor 5. As for Edwards, it seems he would be keen, but it would have to be the righty project. If you recall Edwards didn’t have the best experience on Rogue One with Lucasfilm. The final cut of the movie was reportedly heavily influenced by Andor creator Tony Gilroy.
