George R. R. Martin Not Happy With House Of The Dragon Season 2

It seems George R. R. Martin i.e. GRRM  was not very happy with House of the Dragon Season 2.

It seems George R. R. Martin i.e. GRRM  was not very happy with House of the Dragon Season 2. The author and creator of the A Song of Ice and Fire series upon which House of the Dragon is based recently hinted his displeasure at how Season 2 panned out. Martin took as he does to his Not A Blog, to update fans on what he’d been up to. Those fans do really love hearing about his trips away and not finishing his next book.

Anyway, fans had guessed Martin was unhappy with Season 2. It was not that long before Season 2 aired that Martin had a rant about adaptations ruining an authors story. The rant was in general and not aimed specifically at his own series. However, fans figured that’s where it was bothering him.

Sadly for Martin, he had been so happy with Season 1 of House of the Dragon. The author even praised the showrunners and actor Paddy Consadine for making Viserys better than he wrote him. Yet, Season 2 did begin straying more and more from the books. Fans, who loved Season 1 have been critical of some bizarre decisions in Season 2. And so then we get this in Martin’s latest Not a Blog.

Below is just the most relevant parts of Martin’s full post. Check out the link for his full post covering his recent excursions.

“On a more personal level, I have had a pretty wretched year as well, one full of stress, anger, conflict, and defeat.”

“I need to talk about some of that, and I will, I will… I was away from my computer traveling from July 15 to August 15, so a lot of things that needed saying did not get said.”

(Above may not be related to House of the Dragon or even his overall series, but it might.)

“I do not look forward to other posts I need to write, about everything that’s gone wrong with HOUSE OF THE DRAGON… but I need to do that too, and I will.   Not today, though.”

So what do we think Martin’s beef is with House of the Dragon. One thing fans are not taking into consideration is that the Season was recently capped at 4 Seasons only. Season 2 was also cut from 10 to 8 episodes. Many fans, myself included feel like they didn’t have time to rewrite it, so Season 2 just ended on Episode 8.

I could see both of these annoying Martin, as its all executive level nonsense he cares not for. However, I think most of Martin’s fans also think he was unhappy with some story choices in Season 2. He already mentioned the change to Blood and Cheese which it seems he was cold on. However, best guesses would be; The exclusion of Nettles and giving her story to Rhaena and Allicent’s willingness to give up her son’s to stop the fighting.

it will be interesting to see if Martin is specific or not?

What do you think as it seems George R. R. Martin was not very happy with House of the Dragon Season 2? Thoughts below.
