Ghostbusters: Sony Casts Another Kid

This is going to get personal. I love the Ghostbusters franchise! I am such a huge fan that I have a giant Ghostbusters tattoo permanently etched into my right forearm. I hated the 2016 reboot for being unfunny, poorly written, and not at all getting what made the first film special. I was cautiously optimistic about a sequel to the originals until I learned that Sony was going full It and Stranger Things with the franchise. I’m sorry, but 12-year-olds are not going to carry 40lbs proton packs and wrangle ghosts. They’re also not going to upgrade the equipment enough that they could carry proton packs and wrangle ghosts. Sony… doesn’t… get… it…

It’s already been announced that the upcoming threequel will star Finn Wolfhard of Stranger things as well as a 12-13yo female lead which is now believed to be Mckenna Grace who “stood” as the young Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel. So what does this all mean?

Our fears will all come true. This film will attempt to fix the issues of 2016’s reboot by having males and females, even though the all-female cast was nowhere near the problem. It will aim to ride the coattails of other franchises. It will be a money grab instead of an original story. It… will not be good.

I am pessimistic. I am also incredibly biased, but show me where I am wrong… I love the Ghostbusters franchise, but I have no faith in this movie. You can’t get good, sarcastic, and blue collar comedy from 12yo kids.
