Lou Pearlman will be considered as one of the greatest music managers in history with his creation of boy band groups in the 1990s with Backstreet Boys and NSYNC. Pearlman will also be known as the greatest financial deceiver in history.
The whimsical life story of Lou Pearlman is told in director Aaron Kunkel’s The Boy Band Con: The Lou Pearlman Story, which will be released on YouTube Premium on Wednesday, April 3.
The documentary looks into the creation of Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, their rivalries to the betrayal by Pearlman siphoning off millions from these musicians. The film also explores his conniving background into the beginnings of his childhood to his blimp and aviation businesses. Finally, his greatest downfall was with the Ponzi scheme he stole nearly half a billion dollars from investors and bankers.
The film interviews many notable investors and former musicians, including Lance Bass, Aaron Carter, J.C. Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick, A.J. McLean, Ashley Parker Angel and Nikki Deloach. They all discuss their own personal stories and perspectives on the man who created and tried to destroy their careers/finances.
LRM Online exclusively interviewed documentary subjects Lance Bass (also producer on the film) and Nikki Deloach. We also talked extensively with director Aaron Kunkel and producer Matthew Charles Ducey on the film.
