Like it or not, the female-centric Ghostbusters reboot directed by Paul Feig is coming. The director took to twitter yesterday to reveal that filming begins today for the movie that will star Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones as the titular busters of ghosts.

One actress that could’ve been in one of the roles currently occupied by those aforementioned actresses s Emma Stone. The one-time Academy Award nominee, and former co-star of Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man franchise, was apparently offered a role but turned it down. In a chat with the Wall Street Journal, Stone tackled the question of “Why?”
As it turns out, Stone just needs a breather. After being a part of the machine known as a blockbuster franchise, with those Spider-Man flicks, she just wasn’t ready to dive into another one. “The script was really funny,†Stone says. “It just didn’t feel like the right time for me. A franchise is a big commitment—it’s a whole thing. I think maybe I need a minute before I dive back into that water.“
She then concluded that fear had nothing to do with her decision. She emphatically stated, “I ain’t ‘fraid of no ghosts!“
(Ok, that last part didn’t happen. Shh….)
Ghostbusters comes out on July 22, 2016.
