While, in theory, I’ve always been pretty excited about the prospect of a Godzilla sequel, that original 2014 film really sucked the enthusiasm out for me. It wasn’t bad, but it was incredibly slow and underwhelming, and it felt like we had to wade through hours of boring human stuff just to get to the cool monster stuff. I was hopeful the new film would make things more interesting.
The verdict is still out as to whether or not they succeed, but the first San Diego Comic-Con trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters blew my hair back, and this new trailer, while not amazing, does a great job of setting the stage. In a world where we simply don’t know which Titans are good and which ones are bad, it looks like the folks over at Monarch are willing to bet on one Titan to protect mankind: Godzilla.

Below is the official trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters:
“Following the global success of Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island comes the next chapter in Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ cinematic MonsterVerse, an epic action adventure that pits Godzilla against some of the most popular monsters in pop culture history. The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.”
