It looks as if the process is finally moving forward again for the long gestating Gambit film starring Channing Tatum. According to Deadline, Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean, Rango) is in talks with Fox to direct the film. The project has already went through a couple directors, in Doug Liman and Rupert Wyatt. The script for the film was penned by Joshua Zetumer who wrote the screenplays for the 2014’s Robocop remake and last year’s Patriots Day.

Verbinski sounds like a solid choice to me, while he doesn’t have a heavy volume of films, he has been around Hollywood for two decades and knows how to handle big name characters. I also wouldn’t mind seeing his take on the superhero genre. Verbinski is most well known for directing the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films.
Channing Tatum should have no problem giving fans a worthy portrayal of Remy LeBeau, the southern charmer with an affinity for playing cards. Tatum will also be a producer on the film.
