Gravity Falls Creator Alex Hirsch Signs Multi-Year Deal With Netflix

Well, this is an interesting little development. Alex Hirsch, the creator of the critically-acclaimed animated series Gravity Falls is headed over to the world of Netflix. The news comes courtesy of Netflix themselves. Under the terms of the deal, he will exclusively develop new series and features for the streaming giant.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join the amazing roster of talent coming to Netflix,” said Hirsch in a statement. “Plus it couldn’t hurt to be on The Algorithm’s good side before The Singularity hits. Awesome things are coming!”

“Alex is an imaginative storyteller with new ideas who’s quickly developed a reputation as a fresh new voice in animation,” said Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Content for Netflix. “We couldn’t be more excited to work with him as we continue expanding our adult animated slate.”

In addition to creating Gravity Falls, he’s also had a hand in the upcoming films Pokémon: Detective Pikachu and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, where he served as one of the draft writers and story writers, respectively.

Based on the report, there looks to be no restriction on whether or not these projects will be animated, but the statements from Holland seems to hint at him at least focusing on animation — more specifically, adult animation. Hopefully, they’ll still allow him to stretch his wings in live-action territory as well if he has some ideas for it.
