This year may forever be seen as the year when the war of streaming services truly began. Sure, we’ve had big services like Netflix and Hulu for some years now, but with Disney+ hitting, as well as Apple and WarnerMedia’s services on the way, it’s clear the battlefield is about to grow pretty cramped. When all said and done, it’ll be the quality of the content that will help determine the victor.
On one end, we have Apple cozying up to big filmmakers like M. Night Shyamalan, and on the other we have Disney leaning into their big brands like Marvel and Star Wars to help drive traffic. But what bout WarnerMedia? What big brands will they have if they plan on keeping DC Universe its own separate service. Fret not, folks, because what they lack in a lot of big, marketable brands they make up for in…Gremlins?
Hm…okay. According to THR, there is an animated series on the way based on the live-action property made famous by writer Chris Columbus and director Joe Dante all those years ago. It’s a series that’s been mostly dormant for many years and is poised to make a comeback. Gotham’s Tze Chun will be writing and executive producing the show.

The series is being pitched as a prequel “following Gizmo, the Mogwai at the center of the movies, and a young version of Mr. Wing (played by Keye Luke in the films) as they go on adventures in the years before Gizmo ends up in the care of Billy Peltz (Zach Galligan).”
All right, then. WarnerMedia’s service is expected to hit later this year, but the outlet states actual original content is expected to roll out next year. So I guess we can expect a relatively empty library? Not sure what to think. What about you? Let us know down below!
