Alberto Guerra steps into dancing shoes in the latest Ha-Chan, Shake Your Booty! A film by Josef Kubota Wladyka, who pays homage to his mothers two passions, cinema and ballroom dancing. But filmmaker adds the emotional spin of what the cycle of life can bring after the painful loss. 

The Synopsis 

Haru (Rinko Kikuchi, “Babel”) and Luis (Alejandro Edda, “American Made”) love competing in Tokyo’s ballroom dance scene, but after tragedy strikes, Haru withdraws into isolation. When friends coax her back to the studio, she develops an infatuation with the new instructor (Alberto Guerra). She must face what comes next as sparks fly.

Cuban actor Alberto Guerra emigrated to Mexico during his adolescence, where he attended Televisa’s Centro de Educación Artística. He began his career in theater before expanding into film and television. His first appearance was in Vale Todo in 2002.He is now making his mark internationally, including in a Dolce & Gabbana campaign alongside “Material Girl,” Madonna. His notable projects include El Señor de los Cielos, Narcos: Mexico, Griselda, and Pimpinero: Sangre y Gasolina, alongside Juanes. He will be seen next month in Timbiriche on VIX and Porto Rico alongside Viggo Mortensen and Bad Bunny.

The filmmaker Josef Kubota Wladyka grew up within Japanese and Polish cultures in Northern Virginia. He attended New York University where he earned an MFA in Film. Kubota Wladyka is known for his films maintaining a multicultural mix, including his 2014 debut Manos Sucias. It won the Best New Narrative Director award at the Tribeca Film Festival. Besides film he has worked on several television series, like Narcos: Mexico and Tokyo Vice. 

I was connected with Alberto Guerra and Josef Kubota Wladyka for the upcoming release of Ha-Chan, Shake Your Booty! Josef discussed his mother being the inspiration to create this film, for her love for cinema and ballroom dancing. As well as to how he combined death, grief, love and the comedic spin. While Guerra shared the journey in learning to balldance and getting to do so with familiar songs and much more!
