The Halo Season 2 trailer is here and whilst it looks better, I question will viewers be back after Season 1 dropped the ball so hard? Halo was the video game that most fans thought would finally be the easiest to transition to live-action. Recently we have had some successful video game adaptations, finally. However, Halo Season 1 came just before that wave and was as bad as you expect from a video game adaptation.
However, weirdly what we see in the trailer for Season 2 resembles far more what I was expecting to see in Season 1. Namely, how outgunned and under pressure Human’s are as the Covenant literally glass their planets then move onto the next one.
Check it out for yourself. As I said, it does look better from this trailer.
If I hadn’t seen a thing of Season 1 and watched this trailer I’d make a few assumptions. Namely that we were starting this story, where is should start, at the novel The Fall of Reach. Reach is humanity’s military planet and the biggest prize the Covenant could take outside of Earth, which they still haven’t found yet in the story.
Yet, my head tells me that instead this must surely follow on from Season 1 and all the additional elements unwisely introduced. I’ve seen shows survive a terrible first season and make a great second series. The Wheel of Time did it (for me) most recently. Can we dare to dream Season 2 will reset the story so much is begins to follow the games and books?
I guess we will find out.

However, I will say, of anyone I know who watched Halo Season 1 and know the Halo story from the games, I see the same thoughts. Namely, that Halo was a disaster and they will not be watching Season 2 no matter what. So will any viewers be back that didn’t like Season 1?
I kinda hoped they would cancel the series and just started again with a new team and new writers. It’s a genuine shame that the very cinematic story that is Halo was handled this badly after years in development hell. You could make a great TV series out of the books First Contact and The Fall of Reach alone, with 90% of it being the latter. All you need from First Contact is the POV of the Covenant to understand why they’re doing what they’re doing.
Oh well, I’ll watch a couple of these and see how it goes. However, I wish my excitement was based on this trailer alone, which does tick several boxes.
What do you think of the Halo Season 2 trailer? Will viewers be back after Season 1 failed so badly? Do you agree with me it looks better? Thoughts below as always.
