On Friday, The Wrap broke a story where they seemingly revealed who sits atop the WB’s list to take on the role of Hal Jordan in the upcoming DCEU flick Green Lantern Corps. We shared that with you, naturally, and it was kind of funny that one of our Fantasy Picks for the role was actually #1 on that list (for the full Fantasy Friday: Green Lantern Corps Click Here!). As always, after sharing a whopper of a rumor with you, it becomes a fun waiting game to see how quickly the confirmations and denials start flying around.
One of the names on that rumored Green Lanterns Corps short list for Hal Jordan was Armie Hammer. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Hammer’s name come up in connection to a DCEU film. Back in December, rumors began to swirl that Hammer was actually going to appear in Ben Affleck’s The Batman. At the time, the prevailing thought was that he’d be playing Jordan- despite the fact that it’s anyone’s guess why there’d be a Green Lantern in TheBatman.
Well, despite adding fuel to the fire of last month’s rumor when it sparked, Hammer is acting befuddled about it in its current form. If you’ll recall, one of the things that gave the rumor some traction in December was a social media post he put up with Joe Manganiello, who’s playing Deathstroke in The Batman, where they described themselves as being hard at work, seemingly on a DC project. However, when asked about it over the weekend, here’s what Hammer said:
“I saw the reporting, too. That’s the first I’ve heard of it.”
That doesn’t necessarily mean much, as actors have been famously coy about these kinds of things in the past. Recent examples of actors denying any involvement in a superhero project include Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Paul Rudd as Ant-Man.
I guess we’ll see.
Stay tuned, LRM readers. Coming up shortly, I’ll be putting up a new feature called the Rumor Report Card, where I’ll weigh the likelihood of the hottest rumors to hit the web in the last week- including The Wrap’s list of contenders for Hal Jordan in Green Lantern Corps.
