Henry Cavill back as Superman?

2016 kicked off the start of the new DC Extended Universe films, with Man of Steel directed by Zack Snyder. The man wearing the iconic Superman suit was Henry Cavill, who looked amazing as the Man of Steel. But his portrayal of the character came with a bunch of criticism. Many thought that the direction that the character was taken did not follow the character that they had fallen in love within the comic book storylines. Specifically, fans took issue with his encounter with General Zod, who was played by Michael Shannon.

We then saw him again in Batman V Superman and then finally in Justice League. After Justice League underperformed, it looked like we might not ever see Cavill again as Clark Kent. But just as others like Ben Affleck have returned to reprise their roles, it looks like Cavill is looking to stick around for a while. Via The Cultured Nerd, it’s being reported that Cavill has signed a new deal to reprise his role as Superman.

The report states that Cavill had recently helped pitch a new Superman project and that it was well-received. Apparently the deal is for three films based on his pitch with options to appear in other future DC films. This for a total of five or six films. The interest in his Superman also probably has to due with the new life that the DCEU has had due to the upcoming release of the Justice League Director’s Cut next year on HBO Max.

Since there has been no official announcement of the deal, I will hold off my excitement for a bit. For all, we know this could be a very cruel hoax that will just leave us The CW Superman for the time being. If it does prove to be true, I would be very excited to continue to see Cavill playing Superman for the foreseeable future. Maybe in a Shazam/Black Adam film?
