HBO And Starbucks Respond To The Now Infamous Coffee Cup

WARNING! SPOILERS FOR GAME OF THRONES AHEAD!

After the grueling long episode that was The Long Night, that saw our favorite characters in HBO’s Game of Thrones go up against the Night King and his Army of the Dead, you would expect this episode to at least start off with a little bit of a lighter tone. During the first part of the episode The Last Of The Starks we saw a victory feast where the surviving characters were able to (for the most part) relax, eat and drink. But as we know one of those drinks was not like the others.

There was a moment during that feast where Emila Clake’s Daenerys was sitting observing Kit Harington’s Jon Snow, where a cup of Starbucks was clearly visible to the millions of viewers around the globe. As you probably saw in the earlier post, fans have had a good time creating memes and editing images. Earlier, HBO released a statement regarding the coffee cup incident via their official Game of Thrones Twitter account, which you can see below!

It’s good to see HBO joke about the incident, as there is no doubt that this was a mistake that happened during filming and editing. We know that this season’s production has been the show’s biggest and the previous episode took over 50 days to film, so I’d say it’s OK to give them a little break. The downside to all of this for HBO is the amount of free advertisement that they gave to Starbucks, who also responded on their official Twitter account, check it out below!
