HBO Doesn’t Want To Continue Watchmen Without Damon Lindelof

It appears we have hit an impasse. This past season saw the release of one of the most acclaimed series in recent memory. I’m talking about HBO’s Watchmen. Fans went into this one pretty darn skeptical. It was a follow-up to a beloved graphic novel and it was showrun by Damon Lindelof, who fans like to pin LOST’s failures on. But when the trailers hit, all of our interests were piqued.

The show ended up being the talk on the internet, with many fans being won over by the sharp storytelling and unending amount of mystery. Most importantly, though, it stuck the landing. So, can we expect another season, given how everything wrapped up?

Not likely.

“Where we left it with Damon was he’s thinking about what he wants to do and I’m taking his lead on that,” HBO head Casey Bloys told The Hollywood Reporter at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour. “If he has an idea that he’s excited about, then I’m excited; if he wants to do something else, then that’s what I want to do.”

But is Lindelof excited to do more with Watchmen? It doesn’t sound like it, as Lindelof told the same outlet immediately after the finale.

“I don’t think I’m interested in, nor do I think the audience is interested in, ‘Let’s just do more of the same.’ Because then it wouldn’t be Watchmen. It requires a new idea. Maybe that idea is going to come from someone else. I would welcome that, one hundred percent.”

So, from the sound of it, Lindelof wants someone else with a vision and HBO only wants Lindelof’s vision. Sounds like Watchmen will go down in history as a revered single-season show, which isn’t the worst thing in the world. But what do you think? Let us know your thoughts down below!
