What a good day to be a fan of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials. The fantasy series first kicked off in the 1990s and concluded in 2000 with the third book, The Amber Spyglass. The first book in the series, The Golden Compass (at least in the states), was adapted into a feature film in 2007 by New Line Cinema, and flopped wonderfully. In the time since then, Pullman has returned to this world with The Book of Dust series, and HBO and BBC are teaming up to take another crack at the original trilogy in screen form.

As we know already, Logan’s Dafne Keen is taking center stage in the first season of His Dark Materials as Lyre Belacqua, though while she is the lead of that story, she is only one of two protagonists of the whole trilogy. The second is a boy named Will Parry, who lives in OUR world, and is set to go on the next two-thirds of the adventure with Lyra.

With the premiere of His Dark Materials Season 1 approaching, the networks are already hard at work on Season 2, which includes the casting of Will himself, which was shared via the official HDM Twitter account.

I honestly haven’t seen this kid before in anything, so I can’t really say whether or not it’s a good or bad thing, but I think he certainly looks like he can take on the part.

In addition to this, author Philip Pullman shared the cover art for the U.K. and U.S. editions of The Secret Commonwealth, which is Book 2 of The Book of Dust — the companion series to His Dark Materials.
