“Tick, tock, tick, tock…” Are you ready for one of the most addictive trailer taglines? Throughout pretty much the entirety of the tease for HBO’s new series, Watchmen, we get the undertones of “tick, tock,” running underneath all the clips and all the lines. It’s something that’s in keeping with the clock motif of the graphic novel (with the Doomsday Clock) as well as the idea that time is running out.

But what exactly is this show about? Admittedly, the trailer itself doesn’t give much away, but I think I could infer some solid details based on what we’ve seen and the fact that we know the show takes place in the present day following the events in the graphic novel. Most notably, there is no one Rorschach character, but rather an organization that uses different variations of the mask to help push whatever cause they are fighting for?

Well, before we get into that, this tease makes it clear that they are a very violent organization, and that they have started taking on the police. We also have a hint that they existed at one point before and are now back. that line could have to do with vigilantes in general, but I’m not so sure.

To me, I can see the organization as a whole bunch of “truthers,” as it were. At the end of the Watchmen graphic novel, Rorschach’s journal is sent to the New Frontiersman, implying that the truth surrounding Ozymandias’ betrayal of the Watchmen (and all of humanity) would get out somehow. I can only imagine the splintered world that would be created as a result of this reveal, and that it would create different factions in this world.

What’s the goal? What’s the countdown for? Why is the end of the world nigh? These are all questions I can’t wait for the series to explore. But what do you think? Let us know your thoughts down below!
