Take Out Girl – Starring Hedy Wong and directed by Hisonni Johnson

Hedy Wong and Hisonni Johnson seeked out a film with Take Out Girl that tells a tale of races and social upbringing. They focused on familial bonds, poverty, lack of economic mobility, and criminality in minority communities. As a result, the film demystify Asians as “the model minority” with a real voice, experience and authenticity.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Tera Wong delivers Chinese food for her mother’s struggling restaurant located in a territory referred to as the “Low Bottoms” in south central Los Angeles. And everyone around her, including her unpredictable brother (Saren), are financially trapped in this crime and violence-ridden neighborhood.

That is until Tera takes a job from a local drug lord, moving “product” inside her takeout food containers. With the cash rolling in, Tera intends to move the family restaurant to the suburbs and go clean. But after a series of tragic events, the dream that Tera built on a foundation of lies, may just crumble.

The film stars Hedy Wong in the lead role. Other cast members include Ski Carr (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Blue Bloods), Lynna Yee (Fresh Off the Boat), J. Teddy Garces (Days of Our Lives, Zane’s the Jump Off), Lorin Ly (Raskal Love, One Day), Dijon Talton (Glee, How to Get Away with Murder) and a cameo by rapper $tupid Young. Hisonni Johnson direceted the film from a script with his co-writer Hedy Wong.

LRM Online’s Gig Patta chatted with actress Hedy Wong and director Hisonni Johnson on the movie. We talked abou the production, chinese food, Asian stories and more.

Hisonnia Johnson is a writer, director, actor, cinematographer, and creator. He studied acting at the University of Wisconsin in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program, but realized his talents also were behind the lends. Under the tutelage of acclaimed Chicago photographer David VenderVeen, he developed a portfolio of commercials and affinity of still photography. His pilot Grayson: Earth One received praise from the late Stan Lee, The Hollywood Reporter, and even Deadline Hollywood.

Hedy Wong pursued acting since relocating to Los Angeles and started booking national commercial campaigns for Dove and Best Buy. Also, she appeared in music videos alongside Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, Tyga, A$AP Rocky, and Tory Lanez.

Take Out Girl releases digitally on today.
