Hemsworth And Waititi Down To Make Another Thor Film Under One Condition

The relationship between Chris Hemsworth and Taika Waititi has grown since the two were paired together for the third installment of the Thor franchise.  It was Waititi’s unique vision of the God of Thunder that gave Hemsworth a new outlook on the character.  It has become well known that Hemsworth had become bored of the character, especially after the franchise’s second film Thor: The Dark World.

When Taika Waititi signed on to direct Thor: Ragnarok they both agreed to take the character in an entirely new direction away from the comic book persona.  With Waititi’s unique tone and humor and Hemsworth comedic acting Thor: Ragnarok became the highest-grossing film to date in the franchise. With Ragnarok’s success, Waititi was brought back to direct the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder.

Most fans have assumed that this will be the last time we see Hemsworth as Thor in the MCU.  Since Avengers: Endgame we have seen a passing of the torch from the original Avengers to a new generation of heroes. While Thor: Love and Thunder appear to see Jane Foster as the new Thor, Waititi has admitted in an interview with Total Film Magazine recently that is not the case with this movie.

So could there possibly be more Thor movies in the works? Both Hemsworth and Waititi were asked this question in an interview with ScreenRant, and both admitted that they would only do another Thor film if both were involved.

Waititi: It would feel weird. I’ve got to be honest, I’d be disappointed in you [Chris].

Hemsworth: I’d be disappointed in you if you didn’t say yes to doing it.

Waititi: Only if you do one will I do one.

Unfortunately for Thor fans, Waititi and Hemswork don’t decide what comes next at Marvel, so they can only speak for themselves. However, if Love and Thunder turns out to be financially successful then another Thor film could be a strong possibility. Before this interview, Hemsworth has always said he’s happy to play Thor until he’s no longer wanted by the fans or the studio. Hemsworth still seems to enjoy playing Thor and Waititi giving the character a new lease of life. I guess we will have to wait and see how Love and Thunder turns out to see what the studio decides.
