Henry Cavill Out As Superman For DC Films, actor confirms

Henry Cavill On Whether He'll Wear Superman's Cape Again?

With rumors flying left and right about the future of DC Films, DC boss James Gunn took to social media to drop a massive bombshell. One about a character that he claimed would be a huge priority of DC Films, Superman.

Gun started by saying that the DC slate of films was ready. Announcements would start early next year. He then announced that he was writing a Superman film. The huge surprise came when Gunn said, “our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill.”

But he didn’t close the door on possibly having Cavill return for a future role in DC Films. “But we just had a great meeting with Henry and we’re big fans and we talked about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future.”

Just as everyone was picking themselves off the ground, the final verification came from a social media post by the Man of Steel himself, Henry Cavill.

“I will, after all, not be returning as Superman.” Cavill wrote, a decision he said was made after Gunn and Safran were hired on and they had a meeting. “After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life. The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that.”

It was just last month that Cavill returned to the big screen as the Man of Steel. It came in the form of a cameo at the end of Black Adam. But it turns out that the plans by the new bosses do not include Cavill as Superman.

Henry Cavill was first introduced as Clark Kent aka Superman in Zack Snyder’s 2013 Man of Steel.

The internet has responded very negatively to the news. Many, including myself, were very excited about the return of Henry Cavill to DC films. While I am sad to see him go, it makes sense to start with at a younger point with Superman if this is a 10-year plan. Stay tuned as we learn more about the future of DC Films.
