Every year, San Diego Comic-Con officially begins when the convention center doors open. But for thousands of fans, the event doesn’t truly come alive until the lights dim inside the Harbor Ballroom and the Her Universe Fashion Show takes center stage.
Now in its 12th year, the Her Universe Fashion Show has evolved from a niche cosplay-inspired runway into one of Comic-Con’s signature annual events. Presented by Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products in partnership with DC, this year’s celebration once again packed the venue with a standing-room-only crowd, proving that the fashion showcase has become as much a Comic-Con tradition as Hall H panels and exclusive collectibles.
This year’s theme challenged every designer to create original couture inspired exclusively by DC’s legendary Super Heroes and Super-Villains, resulting in one of the event’s most cohesive and visually striking showcases to date.
Ashley Eckstein, founder of Her Universe, opened the evening in unforgettable fashion. Walking onto the runway wearing what appeared to be a blank white canvas, Eckstein underwent a live artistic transformation as painters turned her dress into a stunning piece of DC-inspired couture before the audience’s eyes. It perfectly set the tone for an evening centered on creativity, craftsmanship, and the idea that fandom itself is an art form.

Throughout the night, Eckstein showcased three unique looks celebrating the individuality and imagination that have defined the Her Universe Fashion Show since its debut over a decade ago.
Returning as co-host was Broadway star Michael James Scott, whose larger-than-life personality once again energized the audience. Scott delivered powerful performances of Bonnie Tyler’s classic “Holding Out for a Hero” along with his original song “Brighter,” accompanied by dynamic choreography and several eye-catching fashion changes featuring custom artisan metalwork that matched the evening’s superhero theme.
Long before the first model stepped onto the runway, fans had already declared this year’s show a must-see. Attendees reportedly began lining up as early as 4 a.m., a testament to the event’s growing popularity and reputation among Comic-Con veterans.

The experience extended well beyond the runway itself. Guests entered through an interactive lobby filled with oversized comic book displays, themed photo opportunities, designer exhibits, and “Krypto’s Corner,” where Best Friends Animal Society partnered with Paws of Coronado to showcase adoptable puppies inspired by Superman’s beloved canine companion.
Past Her Universe Fashion Show winners also returned to display custom streetwear inspired by DC characters, demonstrating how the competition continues to foster talent long after the runway lights fade.
The true stars of the evening, however, were the designers.
For the first time in the competition’s history, every finalist worked from a single franchise, challenging them to reinterpret DC’s iconic heroes and villains through original couture rather than cosplay. The result was a diverse collection of designs that blended high fashion with deep fandom knowledge, pushing creative boundaries while celebrating some of comic books’ most recognizable characters.

An expert judging panel that included entertainment journalist Marc Malkin, Fashion Design Director Symantha Perrera, pop culture personality Frankey Smith, and last year’s winning designers evaluated each creation before selecting this year’s champions.
Sean Quinn of Santa Clarita, California earned the Judges Winner award for his design, “Jokes on You,” while Ren Wilkinson of Midlothian, Virginia captured the Audience Winner title with “The Beast Within.”
Both winners received cash prizes and will be considered for the opportunity to collaborate with Her Universe on an official fashion collection, a career-launching prize that has become one of the competition’s biggest draws.
The production itself continues to raise the bar each year. Under the direction of Dream Three Productions and Executive Producer Jeremy Merrifield, the show blended Broadway-caliber staging, immersive projection effects, live music, and theatrical storytelling into a production that felt more like a major entertainment spectacular than a traditional runway presentation.

That production value is precisely why the Her Universe Fashion Show has become appointment viewing during Comic-Con.
While Hall H delivers blockbuster movie announcements and television premieres dominate much of the convention weekend, the Her Universe Fashion Show celebrates something uniquely Comic-Con: the creativity of fans themselves. Rather than showcasing what’s coming from Hollywood, the event spotlights the artists, designers, and creators who transform their passion for pop culture into wearable works of art.
After twelve consecutive years of growing audiences, increasingly ambitious productions, and industry recognition, the Her Universe Fashion Show has firmly established itself as one of Comic-Con’s defining traditions. It’s no longer simply a fashion competition; it’s a celebration of fandom’s imagination, inclusivity, and creative spirit.
For anyone planning a future trip to San Diego Comic-Con, this year’s standing-room-only crowd sent a clear message: if the Her Universe Fashion Show is on the schedule, it’s an event worth arriving early for.
Fans who couldn’t attend in person won’t have to wait long to experience the spectacle. Footage from the 2026 Her Universe Fashion Show will stream exclusively on the Her Universe YouTube channel next week, giving audiences around the world a chance to witness one of Comic-Con’s most vibrant annual celebrations.
