Worried that the pandemic will delay the PlayStation 5 launch? You may not have to.
China may slowly be getting back on its feet, but the impact of the COVID-19 virus is still felt. As of this writing, there are plenty of industries set to be hit by this thing. If it’s not the fact that the Chinese factories were shut down for a time, it’s now that countries paying for Chinese goods are shut down. For one reason or another related to the virus, industries can’t seem to quite get their footing.
“It’s a complete, dramatic turnaround,” said Shandong Pangu Industrial Co. export manager Grace Gao. “Last month, it was our customers who chased after us checking if we could still deliver goods as planned. Now it’s become us chasing after them asking if we should still deliver products as they ordered.”

Even in Japan, we are seeing some issues. According to Sony Corp., there are some issues with their factories in China. While they may be returning to normal operation, they have component shortages. And as far as their facilities in Malaysia and the U.K., they don’t expect them to reopen until mid-April, by government request. As a result, they are expecting any projections in its profits to be wiped out, leading to a delayed earnings report.
But what about the PlayStation 5? While there has been no word yet on when the new gaming console is set to hit, we can’t help but wonder whether or not the pandemic will negatively impact its release. One Sony spokeswoman said they don’t see any notable impact the virus will have. Of course, that can all change as the course of the pandemic changes, but for now, rejoice at your PlayStation 5 hitting shelves later this year.
With all the bad that’s going on, it’s nice to at least hear some semblance of positivity. Hopefully, we won’t see this thing go for more than a couple more months. If all goes well, we can drown out these awful memories in the games of the new console generation…
