The Highlander Reboot, starring Henry Cavill will begin filming this September says director Chad Stahelski, plus a potential release window. The reboot film recently moved from Lionsgate to Amazon MGM, thus it was expected things would now move quickly. The Highlander Reboot was first announced back in 2023

Speaking with Collider, Stahelski says Highlander is his next project and that filming will begin very soon. 

“If everything works out in the next 24 hours, we’ll be shooting sometime in September. And in 2027 or 2028, you’ll be watching Highlander. “

Of course that is a fairly wide release window. However, I would imagine are talking late 27′ or early 28′ here.  That would make sense if the film does get off the ground this September, and would give the movie around 2 years from production starting. 

We both know a lot, and nothing about this reboot. We can of course look to the original Highlander film for inspiration. I’m guessing for example there will be both a guide like Ramirez and a villain like The Kurgen. Though truthfully I think we are all hoping for a lot more this time around. Highlander was one of those films that had a great concept not expertly made, or that well scripted. 

I’ll also hazard a guess that Connor won’t win the ‘Prize’ at the end of this film. If it works, I’m sure Stahelski and Amazon MGM will be looking at sequels.

I guess we will have to wait and see?

We do have a few details from director Stahelski, mostly about the setting of the film, see related link above. However, he did give us this when he spoke to The Direct a while ago. 

“My selling point was, to [Henry Cavill], look, you’ve got a guy that’s been alive for over 500 years. He’s the last person in the world that wanted to be in this situation”.

“So you get to cover quite a broad spread of a character arc there. And you get to experience someone that’s trained over 500 years and sort of played [with many types of] martial arts.”
