Hobbs & Shaw Director On That Secret Villain: Who Is It?

Disclaimer: This post contains spoilers for Hobbs & Shaw…if you care about that sort of thing for this kind of movie.

So, as was revealed throughout the runtime of the movie, Idris Elba’s Brixton was not the main villain. I mean, yes he was the main villain of the film, but he wasn’t the one ultimately pulling the strings. Instead, we got some nameless waveform giving Brixton orders — a voice that, when it broke up, sounded an awful lot like Ryan Reynolds, who also played a role as Agent Locke in the movie.

The main baddie was never revealed in this movie. But since the voice was clearly Ryan Reynolds — credited under his pseudonym Champ Nightingale — will the twist ultimately be that Locke was behind the whole thing? Here’s what the director told THR.

“I’ll be honest: there’s no final decision. I think we wanted to leave it open-ended. We have a lot of strong, creative ideas that are circling between [writer] Chris Morgan, the producers and myself. But, again, we wanted to give ourselves opportunity because it’s a first time out.

If this was Fast Five, you’ve already built your world, and it’s good to have that cliffhanger to get into the next one. For us, we wanted to anchor our characters in two defined worlds, show the potential of this world and set it loose into the theatrical world to see how people respond.

Then, we’ll react accordingly and say, ‘Hey, this is what the next movie should be.’ We want this thing to live on for a while, and we want these characters to have many adventures. We just felt it was too early to say, ‘Here’s our next adventure’.”

So, sadly they really don’t know what’s going on here, and we are at a point where making assumptions based on previously-established deals would be foolish since even the filmmakers don’t know what the deal is.

What do you think of this whole thing being left in the air? Does it make the film any less interesting to you? Let us know your thoughts down below!
