Before we’ll be getting the ninth installment of the long-running Fast & Furious franchise, we will be taking a bit of a side quest with fan-favorite characters Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw in the currently-untitled Hobbs & Shaw spinoff. Of course, the film will star Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, who will be reprising their roles as the badass frenemies.

But what can we expect from this new spinoff? Will it retain the same spirit of the original film franchise, or will it go off and do its own thing? Speaking with EW, Statham gave a bit of an update on the film, saying:

“They’re developing the script right now, so I can’t give you any spoilers on that one. Listen, Dwayne’s got a big appetite for action, and he’s got a great appetite for humor, and I’m sure it will be brimming with both of those things.”

I think the fact that Johnson seems involved in the overall development of this one is quite telling. As Statham states, he has an appetite for action and humor. Fast & Furious certainly has that in spades, but when all said and done, I’d imagine this will feel more like a textbook Johnson action flick than your standard Fast & Furious one.

So what does that mean? My guess is there will be a lot more fun interactions between character, and a little less high octane action.
