The Fast and Furious franchise is one that has expanded beyond recognition. If you’d gone back to 2001 and told everyone there at a little film called The Fast and the Furious would spawn one of the biggest film franchises in history, chances are, they would have laughed at you. Now, here we are, eight films in, and with one spin-off film on the way starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham as fan-favorite characters Hobbs and Shaw.
As you’d expect from any spin-off, we’ll be getting to delve deeper into these side characters. In Fate of the Furious, we had a chance to see Statham’s mother, and in Hobbs and Shaw, we’ll be getting more into his family life.
Variety is reporting that The Crown‘s Vanessa Kirby will be headed to the big screen in the action film, portraying Shaw’s sister, who is also an MI-5 agent. In addition to Johnson and Statham, Kirby will be joining director David Leitch, who most recently lent his talents to bring Deadpool 2 to life.
Penning the script for this spin-off is longtime Fast and Furious writer Chris Morgan, so if you were worried about its trademark tone getting lost in translation…fret not. Production is set to commence on Hobbs and Shaw this fall.
