Tom Holland, the young British actor who stole the hearts of Marvel fans in last year’s Captain America: Civil War, wants to be in for the long haul. The actor expressed his desire to play the character for the foreseeable future in a recent interview with Empire.
“Peter Parker is a character we see [in the comic books] as a 15-year-old boy and then as a 35-year-old man,†said Holland. “So I have an idea of what I’d like to do, and I’ve pitched it and it’s already been taken into the boardroom. It would be really cool if it pans out, because it means I would be Spider-Man for a very long time.”
It is nice to see an actor be this in love with a character that he is willing to dedicate what could end up being a substantial portion of his career to it. Though it is easy to see where the young actor is coming from, what 20-year-old wouldn’t want to portray arguably the most popular comic book hero ever? With Holland only being 20 years old, and cast as the youngest Spider-man in history, this is not outside the realm of possibility, as the actor is already signed up for a three film storyline.
“There’s certainly a fun potential three-film structure that can be had, between sophomore, junior and senior year,” said Holland.
It’s also worth noting that this is the first iteration of the character that Marvel, and Kevin Feige were involved in bringing to the big screen. While Holland is great as Spider-Man, and we hope he does get his wish to play the character for a long time, one cannot discount seeing Spidey interacting with his Marvel pals as a factor in this Spider-Man’s wide acceptance by fans.
One question is, will Holland still feel this way in a few year, or will he come realize that he wants to move on to other projects?
