Hooking Up is not about sex, or is it?
In Hooking Up, the film stars Brittany Snow, Sam Richardson, Anna Akana, Jordana Brewster, and Vivica A. Fox.
Here’s the short synopsis:
Darla (Snow) is an adventurous writer pumping out scandalous content for a lifestyle magazine. Bailey (Richardson) is a hopeless romantic who’s just been dumped by his high school sweetheart and given a medical diagnosis that’s left him shook. After a chance meeting, the mismatched duo hit the road on a cross country trip to provide them both some much-needed healing.
Romantic comedies miss more often than it hits because it heavily relies on the chemistry of the main characters. Pairing Brittany Snow and Sam Richardson together, it is an opposite attract situation and can potentially work.
Both actors have proven themselves in comedy in the past with Snow from the Pitch Perfect franchise and Richardson from HBO’s Veep, along with appearances in Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, and We’re the Millers.
I do like the concept that they’ll get into over-the-top situations to recreate awkward sexual encounters during this road trip. It is an unusual therapy experience by reliving 169 sexual experiences. So there’ll be plenty of clichés from rom coms that fans will undoubtedly enjoy. And most importantly, there are plenty of laughs.
Nico Raineau (Zac and Mia) helmed Hooking Up from a script written by him with Laurent Schacher (F*ck Yes).
Hooking Up scheduled for release in select theaters, digital and On Demand on March 20.
