How Did Joker Fare At The Golden Globes?

Image result for joker

Early reviews for Joker claimed a majority of the critics’ praise and talk immediately began revolving around how this film could win some major awards.  Once Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker was released to fans, and the actor cemented himself among the few greats who have played the villain, the talk of awards intensified due to the appeal and success of the film which broke the billion dollar mark while having a budget of a mere $50-$70 million.

Last night the Golden Globes commenced and the film was up for awards in the following categories:

BEST MOTION PICTURE — DRAMA

1917
Joker
Marriage Story
The Two Popes
The Irishman

BEST DIRECTOR
Bong Joon Ho, “Parasite”
Sam Mendes, “1917”
Quentin Tarantino, “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood”
Martin Scorsese, “The Irishman”
Todd Phillips, “Joker”

BEST ACTOR – DRAMA
Christian Bale, “Ford v. Ferrari”
Antonio Banderas, “Pain and Glory”
Adam Driver, “Marriage Story”
Joaquin Phoenix, “Joker”
Jonathan Pryce, “The Two Popes”

BEST ORIGINAL SCORE
“Motherless Brooklyn”
“Little Women”
“Joker”
“1917”
“Marriage Story”

As always there was some major competition for the awards, and Joker took home two of the four.  The film missed out on Best Motion Picture: Drama, and Todd Phillips missed Best Director.  On the positive side, Joaquin Phoenix took home best actor, and seemed somewhat surprised by the win while Hildur Guðnadóttir won for her amazing score making her the first female solo composer to win the award and the second female overall in the Best Original Score category to win!

It was disappointing to see that Todd Phillips did not win, nor did it win Best Drama, but for Phoenix and Guðnadóttir, they definitely, “Got what the f-ing deserved!”
