How Long Will Final Fantasy VII Remake Take To Beat?

It’s almost here, folks. In less than 24 hours, audiences all over will be able to relive their childhood experiences with Final Fantasy VII Remake. Well, a chunk of it at least. Square Enix has been saying for a long time now that the PlayStation 4 game will only cover a chunk of the original story. More specifically, it will cover the time spent in the steampunk-friendly city of Midgar. The time spent in that city will vary, ranging from an ultra-quick two-hour speedrun to a much longer 10 hours.

And as far as how much of the original game is made up by Midgar…you’ll also get different answers. Some say it’s only like one-sixth, and others say it’s closer to a third. Given that a gaming experience is so personal, it is difficult to tell. While some fans claim it makes up 10% of gameplay, the actual script of the sequence is roughly one-third of the entire game.

With all this in mind, I bring up one question: how long is Final Fantasy VII Remake? There’s obviously no one answer, but we can infer a rough estimate based on various reviews. Based on everything I’ve been hearing, it could take roughly 32 to 40 hours to beat the main story of the game. Of course, like every game, this is all very subjective.

Keep in mind that the people who have completed the game by this time are up against deadlines and are often better-practiced at games than most. This also doesn’t feature a “completionist” run, where a lot of thought and care is put into tackling every single sidequest and upgrading every weapon imaginable.

This falls in line with previous Final Fantasy games of the past, though it does seem to be a bit shorter than your average Final Fantasy VII run. I’m sure this is bound to disappoint some people who waited all this time, but from everything I’ve heard, it does feel like a complete experience. But I suppose we’ll have to wait from the word from fans to find out for sure.
