“Are Netflix’s days numbered?” 

That’s a question many people were asking themselves as Disney+ approached on the horizon. With The Mandalorian being a heavy hitter, and with Disney having countless huge properties at their disposal, including their animated films, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars, was there really room for a lot of users to have both Netflix and Disney+? Just how much would the latter take a bite out of the former?

Well, now we have some numbers. According to Cowen & Co. analyst John Blackledge, Netflix lost around 1.1 million users during the month of November, with 1.6 million being the prediction of lost subscribers in the entire quarter.

Is this bad news? Not necessarily. While They are taking a tiny sliver of the pie from Netflix, Blackledge expects Netflix to exceed its fourth quarter growth forecast of 7.6 million subscribers. So, it’s clear that Netflix was already planning for this. Plus, 158 million subscribers globally, 1.1 million is quite the small sliver.

Of course, Disney+ is still a new service, and there are a lot of pages left in the book that is The Streaming Wars, so it’s hard to say whether this ultimately marks the beginning of the end, or just the start of a beautiful frenemy-ship, but this “incremental churn appears manageable,” Blackledge wrote.
