How The Batman Trailer Ended Up With Something In The Way

Reaction To Test Screening Of The Batman Is Positive

The trailer for Matt Reeves’ The Batman was something truly special. Fans got a glimpse into where Reeves is taking the franchise. Along with a younger Batman who seemed to enjoy brutally beaing some poor Gotham City red shirt into the pavement, the accompanying music was just wonderful.

The song is ‘Something in the Way’ from Nirvana’s Nevermind album, and the additions made by Michael Giacchino elevated it to an epic level. Giacchino recently spoke about the track on CinemaBlend‘s ReelBlend podcast. You can chck out what he had to say below.

I think we just got lucky when it came around time to do the trailer. We got really lucky that [my main theme] just, it lied in perfectly against that song, you know? That was one of those things where they sent it to me, and they were like, ‘Should we fill it in more?’ And I’m just like, ‘I don’t know. It sounds pretty great the way it is and the way that it’s just sort of layered in.’ And we gave them a few things to add into it, but not much at all. I feel like they did a really good job with that trailer. It was a great way of saying, ‘Here’s your next Batman.’

I have always felt that the song was an underrated gem of the album. It waited patiently, and fits so well into the trailer that it’s almost as if it was the song’s purpose all along. While it was a long, long time coming, the trailer for The Batman was more than worth the wait, at least in my opinion. I am more than onboard with the direction the film appears to taking and am anxious for the next trailer.
