How Was The Mood Backstage At WWE’s WrestleMania 36?

WWE’s WrestleMania 36 is in the books. There were many people (including me) that thought that the show should be postponed because I didn’t think they could put on a worthwhile show. The main reason being that it was going to be filmed with no crowds and they had to make several last-minute changes to the card with no build-up. But what about the talent that in a way are forced to work the event even as the world is staying put at home. Doing their best to avoid the COVID-19 virus. How did they feel about working this version of WrestleMania?

There is a backstage report thanks to Pro Wrestling Torch’s Wade Keller that describes how the WWE talent was dealing with the pretaped show. In his wrap up he states that the wrestlers were not just going through the motions of their matches. They were working hard to try and surprise the world with an amazing show. There was no sense of protest or resentment.

Here is the statement from Keller via Wrestling News.co:
“From a number of wrestlers who were at the tapings, I did hear that this was not like a Saudia Arabia [feeling of] ‘let’s just get through this.’ The attitude among the wrestlers was, ‘everyone really wanted to work hard and try to make this work. This did come across as a night where the wrestlers were like, ‘we’re here, we’re not here under protest or resentful or we don’t see this as [not] important.’ I was told the attitude among the crew was ‘lets surprise people.’ That was the attempt and I think it’s clear they were attempting to work hard and salvage this given the tough circumstances.”

After watching both nights of the event it was evident that the wrestlers did their best to put on a great show. The triple threat ladder match for example between Kofi Kingston, John Morrison and Jimmy Uso was fantastic even though there was no crowd. Not to mention both the Boneyard and Firefly Funhouse matches that were very creative ways to display matches. Although not the WrestleMania we are used to seeing, it at least distracted us from our current state of crisis that we find ourselves at home for two nights.
