Looks like at least a couple of Hulu’s original IPs are faring pretty well. It has just been announced by the streaming service that they will be renewing Marvel’s Runaways and the action-comedy-time-traveling series Future Man for 13 episodes apiece.
Per the norm for streaming services, we haven’t the faintest idea of how well these shows are actually performing. Hulu (and the bodies that own it) is the only one who knows those details, and for all we know, they may just be renewing these shows for the brand recognition they bring to the platform, but this does seem to be good news for them.
While Hulu is becoming a more and more respected “network,” it wasn’t until recently that it actually started to get mentioned in the same conversations as Netflix in terms of show quality. After a few years, they seem to have finally hit their stride.
For those unfamiliar, Marvel’s Runaways follows a group of teens who find out their parents are pretty much evil. As the “Marvel” branding would imply, it’s based on a comic of the same name. Future Man is a Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg-executive produced series that follows a janitor who — after beating a video game — is brought back in time to help save the future of mankind.
