I Am Richard Pryor, Documentary Of The Legendary Comedian, To Air On Paramount Shortly After It’s Premiere AT SXSW Film Festival

Richard Pryor, the man many to believe the best comedian of all-time will be the subject of the next documentary in the I am series from Network Entertainment. I am Richard Pryor will premiere this weekend at the South by Southwest film festival. Pryor is a legend in the comic world and has influenced countless other comedians throughout the years. Pryor’s entry will be the latest installment into the documentary series that has covered the likes of John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., and Heath Ledger, among others. You can check out a clip from the film at the top of the article.

While Pryor isn’t at the top of my personal list, I won’t give someone who does rank him numero uno much of a fight. Pryor was  absolutely hilarious and was likely a huge influence on the man that takes my number one spot, Dave Chapelle. When I was growing up, Richard Pryor was what my parents and their friends watched, I was at an age where I wasn’t allowed to watch, which made Pryor the hot ticket item, meaning, sooner or later you or one of your friends would get a hold of one of his specials, and sneak off and watch it.

I Am Richard Pryor will air on Paramount Network March 15.

An official synopsis follows below.

“I Am Richard Pryor explores and celebrates the life and career of the iconic comedian who lifted himself out of poverty to achieve worldwide success. From his first comedy album until his death of a heart attack in 2005, the revolutionary stand-up comedian dispensed what critics regarded as the most poignant and penetrating comedic view of African-American life ever afforded to the U.S. at large. Volatile yet vulnerable, crass but sensitive, streetwise and cocky, Pryor did not simply tell stories, he brought them to life and was considered a trailblazer for generations of comics to come. The film explores his unusually personal art that was a window into a vulnerable soul, as well as the endless struggle to extend dignity and equality to all.”
