Hivemind is the new production entity from long producing partners Sean Daniel and Jason Brown, Bad Robot veteran Kathy Lingg and former Valiant Entertainment CEO and CCO Dinesh Shamdasani. They have recently inked a first look deal with Amazon Studios.
Today they have announced that they have won an “intense multi-studio bidding war” in which they have acquired the rights to the hit Image Comics’ comic book series Gideon Falls by Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino to television. The two co-creators will be executive producers on the project alongside Hivemind’s Brown, Daniel, Lingg and Shamdasani.
Here is a description of the story provided to us by Hivemind:
An atmospheric thriller colliding rural mystery and urban horror, the series follows an ensemble cast of seemingly random strangers – a washed-up Catholic priest, an uncompromising female sheriff, and a young recluse obsessed with unraveling a conspiracy buried in his city’s trash – as they become drawn into a mystery connected to a long-forgotten local legend.
Speaking more about Gideon Falls Hivemind co-president Brown had this to say about the project:
“GIDEON FALLS is psychological horror told with a deeply humanistic touch, a story about imperfect people who confront their own demons – imagined and supernatural alike. It is this kind of expertly fashioned, character-focused genre storytelling that inspired us to form Hivemind, and it is our mission to collaborate with world-class authors, artists, and rights holders like Jeff and Andrea to bring their stories to the screen in an authentic way.”
Hivemind is has been quickly expanding their projects. They currently already produce the acclaimed sci-fi series The Expanse, which has just recently moved from Syfy to Amazon. Also they are producing Netflix’s adaptation of The Witcher, which is based on the novels that then inspired the game franchise. As for films, they are working with Guillermo del Toro and Andre Ovredal on Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, which is set to being production this summer.
This deal will have Shamdasani and Lemire working together once again. They have worked together before at Valiant Entertainment on some of their best selling books The Valiant and Bloodshot Reborn. Lemire talked about his excitement of this deal, “GIDEON FALLS is a story that is very near to our hearts, and Andrea and I could not be more excited to be partnering with Hivemind to bring the terror, and the story of Fred, Norton and The Black Barn, to an even wider audience.”
