Sony Adapting Valiant Entertainment’s Faith For A Film

Comic book properties are getting picked up left and right lately. Image Comics’ Crowded and Gideon Falls has been picked up by studios. Valiant Entertainment’s properties are doing well in this area as well with Bloodshot being worked on with a future Harbinger film in the works over at Sony. Now The Hollywood Reporter tells us that Sony is developing yet another Valiant character.

Up and coming writer Maria Melnik has been brought in to pen the script that will bring Faith Herbert to the big screen. Her credits include American Gods as well as the upcoming action thriller The Escape Room. The film will be produced by Neal Moritz and Dan Mintz via Moritz’s Original Films banner.

Who is Faith Herbert? Her code name is Zephyr that due to her love for all that is sci-fi and comic books adapts traditional superhero characteristics. For example she is a journalist in Los Angeles for her daytime job, adopting her alter ego Summer Smith while wearing glasses and a red wig. Being a psiot in the Valiant Universe she has the ability to fly and use aerokinetic abilities.

She first appeared in comics in Valiant’s Harbinger #1 in January, 1992 by Jim Shooter and David Lapham. After the Valiant reboot she first appeared in Harbinger #3 in August, 2012 by Joshua Dysart and Khari Evans. But then in July of 2016 she got her own series titled Faith written by Jody Houser with artwork by Pere Perez and Marguerite Sauvage. Followed by Faith and the Future Force in July, 2017 also written by Houser with artwork by Steven Segovia and Barry Kitson.

Her next series with be debuting this September titled Faith: Deamside once again written by Houser with artwork by MJ Kim. Here is the solicit for that title via Valiant Entertainment:
Even before Faith “Zephyr” Herbert gained the power of flight, joined the Harbinger Renegades, and soared through the skies of Los Angeles, deep down she was always a hero at heart. But what’s a hero to do in the face of a foe that exists only in nightmares? Face them head-on, of course! To protect the dreams of her teammate, Animalia, Faith must venture into a fantastical new realm the likes of which the Valiant Universe has never seen… and she’ll need some help from the world’s premiere parapsychologist, Dr. Mirage, to make it back with her subconscious mind still intact!

This fall, uncover the secrets of the Dreamside as writer extraordinaire Jody Houser (FAITH, Star Wars: Thrawn) and rising star MJ Kim (FAITH’S WINTER WONDERLAND SPECIAL #1) continue the adventures of the high-flying icon Nerdist called “a superhero done right!”

Being that she has is friends with Peter Stanchek and the Renegades it would make sense to develop her character as she is one of the psiots who rebel against Toyo Harada and his Harbinger Foundation. It will be interesting to see this Valiant film universe come together with characters like Bloodshot and now Faith in the end leading to Harbinger Wars. As a fan of Valiant comics I am very excited.
