In Spite Of Rumors, The Winds Of Winter Still Doesn’t Seem To Have A Release Date

Some more Game of Thrones news seems to have hit the web — or so it seems. This comes around the same time as news revolving around a new series that will focus on the Targaryens (you can read all about it from Jammer in the RELATED section). Another odd report from The Business Times seems to point at a potential release date for the sixth A Song of Ice and Fire series, The Winds of Winter.

Buried at the end of their report was a claim that Martin has finally predicted the novel to be published by July of 2020. However, as it stands, there doesn’t seem to be any corroborating evidence, and the report doesn’t even say where it gets its claims from. As such, I’d take it all with a heaping grain of salt.

This wouldn’t be the first time we’ve had fake news surrounding the long-awaited novel. A couple of years back, Martin himself had to debunk such theories on his blog, saying:

“I don’t know which story is more absurd, the one that says the book is finished and I’ve been sitting on it for some nefarious reason, or the one that says I have no pages. Both ‘reports’ are equally false and equally moronic.”

Fans have been waiting on the novel for some time now, with an original release planned for back in 2017. While I don’t read the novels, I like to read about key differences between them and the show, so even not being a reader, I am excited for Winds of Winter, and A Dream of Spring to be released.

The HBO series has likely changed the upcoming novels in one way or the other, or atleast the way Martin writes them. For better or worse, his story has been somewhat highjacked and he won’t recapture it until the novels are released
