It has been fourteen years since Disney/Pixar introduced audiences to the Parr family. Fourteen years since Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, Violet, Dash, Jack-Jack, and Frozone joined the pantheon of animated classics in the Mouse House. The Incredibles paid homage to the classic superhero genre with a dash of James Bond thrown into it, becoming one of Disney/Pixar’s higher rated films. Since its release, fans and moviegoers alike have been anxiously awaiting the return of these characters in a much-anticipated sequel. That time has finally arrived and it seems the Parr family have not lost their magic.
Fandango has announced that The Incredibles 2 now holds the online movie ticket retailer’s best presales record for an animated pic in its 18-year history. The news shouldn’t come as a surprise to the company, as the upcoming sequel was voted Most Anticipated Film of the Year on the Fandango summer movie poll, topping the previous title holder, Finding Dory.
In the sequel, Elastigirl comes out of retirement and continues to pursue her career as a superhero while Mr. Incredible becomes the stay-at-home dad, taking care of the family. Writer/Director Brad Bird (The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, Ratatouille) returns to helm the project, which features the voice talents of Craig T. Nelson (Poltergeist, Coach, Parenthood), Holly Hunter (The Piano, Thirteen, the Big Sick), Samuel L. Jackson and Bob Odenkirk (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, the Post).
The Incredibles 2 hits theaters today.
