It’s looking like Indiana Jones 5 is set in 1969, or at least one scene in the movie will be at least. The latest set photos from filming in Glasgow have been showing my own closest City being transformed into the New York of the 60’s. However as filming and the set design have progressed it has become clear what is being filmed. The famous New York ticker tape parade for the return of the Apollo 11 astronauts. Being a historical event we can therefore place this scene specifically in 1969.
I cannot share any of the images here. However I can link you to r/Scotland on Reddit where some good images were posted. I wish I had the time to go and check things out for myself, sadly I do not. Whilst it would be wrong to say we have confirmed the Apollo 11 parade, it seems unlikely to be anything else. This would also line up with early plot rumors that describe Mads Mikkelsen’s character. Mikkelsen is reportedly plying the chief antagonist and a former Nazi scientist recruited by NASA during Operation Paperclip.
EDIT: This one below proves the 1969 setting beyond a doubt.

Original Take Below
However, for now, we simply have no idea what the plot revolves around in Indy 5. There will be a MacGuffin, and that MacGuffin will be pivotal to the plot of the film. Yet, despite some bad fan fiction there have been no serious leaks around the larger plot at hand.
We always suspected that Indiana Jones 5 would be in the 60’s. However, given that most Indy films take place across a short period of time, this latest news gives us a clear 1969 period to aim for. We also know that some scenes have been filmed that were set during WW2. My own guess, is that this will be the prologue of the movie. However there are also plenty of fan theories around time travel. Until I have reason to think otherwise though, I’m sticking with prologue.
