While the last quest of Indiana Jones was not the most well-received of the franchise, Indy will get a chance at redemption. The fifth Indiana Jones film now has a start date. The next adventure of the famed archeologist will begin shooting next April in the United Kingdom. Director Steven Spielberg broke the news at the Empire Awards.
“It’s always worth the trip when I get to work with this deep bench of talent coming out of the UK. The actors, and the crew, the chippies, the sparks, the drivers — everybody who has helped me make my movies here, and will continue helping me make my movies here when I come back in April 2019 to make the fifth Indiana Jones movie right here.”
We have no idea at this point what the film will be about, but remember, Last Crusade was almost going to be Indiana Jones and the Monkey King, so that is probably on the table. Whatever they come up with, I am sure it will be earthbound this time and they will stay away from aliens.
I can hear the classic John Williams theme now. I didn’t hate Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but it is definitely my least favorite of the four films. I don’t think there is anything wrong with Indy playing with extraterrestrials, Spielberg just sort of missed the mark with it. While many would say Harrison Ford plays the same basic character in the majority of his films, he is Han Solo and Indiana Jones, I don’t know of an actor that has two roles that are more iconic, at least to nerds.
