Inside the Mind Of Darth Vader - Hayden Christensen Gives Some Insight

In a recent interview with THR, Hayden Christensen gives some insight inside the mind of Darth Vader within the Obi-Wan Kenobi show. Christensen thinks Vader is disappointed in what he sees from Obi-Wan in their first encounter in the show. The actor who plays Darth Vader (sometimes) also teases a re-match.

First Christensen conforms that there is a connection between Anakin and Obi-Wan that was awakened once more as Kenobi used the Force and thoughts of his former friend.

“There’s just so much history to that relationship. There is obviously a great bond that was broken, and I think Vader is still very much affected by that. That first shot in the bacta tank when you see Vader opening his eyes, the idea is that Obi-Wan is connecting with him and coming to his attention again.”

At this point in time, Hayden says Vader is trying to kill the Anakin side of him.

“Yes, I always see Anakin as a throughline and an undercurrent to this character. Vader is trying his best to kill off that side of him, but there always has to be a little bit of Anakin in there. And that presents itself, and that’s a part of the fun. I’m always thinking about the Anakin aspect of this character.”

As for the battle between Vader and Kenobi, Christensen says Vader is shocked by what he finds in his old Master.

“Well, I think that came as a shock to Vader to see how disconnected from the Force Obi-Wan is at this point. I think Vader wants Obi-Wan to be able to put up more of a fight. I don’t want to say too much [about what’s to come].”

Finally Christensen says he’s ready to come back if asked for any prequel or sequel plans.

“Absolutely! To get to do more with this character would be amazing!”

Interesting comments. I still think Vader just watching that Loader droid drag Kenobi away was strange. Maybe if we had something from Vader to indicate why? Some dialogue showing us Vader was shocked by how easy this fight would have helped. When it comes to Vader the emotion has to come from the dialogue itself, we can’t see anything else.

What did you think of his comments as Hayden Christensen gives some insight inside the mind of Darth Vader? Are you a fan of Obi-Wan Kenobi so far or not? Thoughts below, or over on Discord as always.
