Iron Fist: Don’t Expect Claire Temple To Show Up In Season 2 | SDCC 2018

So far in the Marvel Netflix universe, Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple has been the glue that’s held everything together. She’s the only character who’s popped up in almost every show out there — including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders — and understandably, many folks out there are hopeful that she’ll continue to play a big role going forward.

But will she be able to continue her dominance of these shows? Sadly, it looks like her reign is coming to an end, as according to Marvel Television executive vice president Jeph Loeb, she won’t be around Iron Fist Season 2:

“Claire won’t be in there. But our relationship with Rosario is awesome and….we love her, she loves us. And when the story lends itself into that place, and hopefully she’s available…we go down that road. Believe me, there isn’t any showrunner who hasn’t come in and said, ‘So, where are we with Rosario.’ And then we go, ‘Well, lets tell the story and figure it on out.'”

Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean that she will NEVER return. In recent weeks, Dawson herself has expressed her lack of knowledge as to how much she’ll be returning to the Marvel TV universe in the future, but it doesn’t sound like that’s the reason why she isn’t here.

Loeb continued:

“Again, it always comes down to the story. If it warrants that someone else be in there…some people would be really satisfied if Danny Rand got on a bus and Foggy Nelson was getting off the bus…and that’s cool. It is and to a certain extent it’s sort of like , ‘Really? That’s what you did?’ So we always look at it from a point of view of, what’s the best story. We don’t run an Easter egg farm. We do put little things in there, you know…but we certainly don’t want it to be something that people focus on. We don’t want it to be distracting from the story.”

Bravo, Loeb! That’s the way to do it. I’m all for fan service, but when it happens at the detriment of the story, it does distract quite a bit from my overall enjoyment. It’s nice to know that they don’t plan on having meaningless crossovers in the future, as it can ultimately take away from their impact.

What do you think of Loeb’s comments? Are you sad that Dawson won’t be returning to Iron Fist in this upcoming season? Sound off down below!
